OUR REVIEW & VERDICT
DNSYS X1: An alternative hip-assistance system to trial
An original synthesis of the linked evidence. SmartWearGuide has not hands-on tested this device.
DNSYS X1 provides another route to motor-assisted hip movement, with assistance and resistance modes rather than a single fixed boost. The family includes different configurations, so the exact model matters. The 1.6 kg mechanical-weight claim belongs to X1 Carbon and should not be applied indiscriminately to every package.
Laura Lancaster's Outdoor Life comparison used X1 Carbon. She found the mode controls simpler than Hypershell's, but her testing also raised comfort and gait concerns across both systems. That report is helpful precisely because it does not treat motor assistance as an uncomplicated gain. It is evidence about the tested Carbon configuration, not every X1 variant.
The best reason to shortlist X1 is to compare fit and assistance behaviour in person against the alternatives. Waist-size variants, the chosen operating mode and battery arrangement deserve more attention than marketing imagery of extreme terrain. X1 is not a medical device, and its batteries and charger are not compatible with Z1. We have not established a controlled energy-saving result for this family. Buy only with a clear understanding of the specific variant, return terms and what assistance feels like on your own normal route.
Why #4 in this selectionFourth as a credible alternative for a comparative fitting trial. The family-level entry needs especially careful variant selection before any specification or review is applied.
The compromiseThe exact configuration matters, and batteries do not transfer to Z1. Comfort and altered gait can limit the usefulness of assistance even when the motors work as intended.
