OUR REVIEW & VERDICT
eSight Go: Magnified visual information for a personal low-vision trial
An original synthesis of the linked evidence. SmartWearGuide has not hands-on tested this device.
eSight Go is a visual-assistance system for users who may benefit from a camera image shown on near-eye displays. Adjustable magnification, contrast and colour controls are the relevant features. This is a different task from OrCam's spoken reading, so the two should not be ranked as interchangeable solutions to vision loss.
The manufacturer documents Full HD OLED displays, up to 24-times magnification and a neck-worn battery with up to three hours of continuous operation. Magnification can make details larger while reducing the portion of a scene visible at once, so the largest number is not necessarily the most usable setting for a given task.
The essential step is a demonstration with the intended user and their real activities, such as reading, recognising detail at a distance or viewing a screen. The benefit varies with the individual's remaining vision and needs, and no specification can substitute for that trial. We have not independently established clinical outcomes or daily comfort. Its shortlist place reflects configurable visual assistance and a documented wearable format, while avoiding promises of restored sight or suitability for every eye condition.
Why #4 in this selectionFourth as a visual-enhancement option requiring individual assessment. It could be more relevant than higher entries when the user specifically wants an enlarged image rather than audio.
The compromiseFit, residual vision and the task determine benefit. Battery duration and the field-of-view trade at high magnification deserve attention during a demonstration.
